Jim & (Awesome Sauce) Nena's!

Location - 3 S. Main St. York New Salem, PA
Phone - 717-792-3078
Website - www.jimandnenaspizza.com
Location Eaten - Carry Out
Price - $10 (Large Cheese Pizza)
TC1P Rating - 3.9188

No, really. The sauce was actually quite awesome! With a TC1P score of 3.9188 Jim and Nena's of York New Salem is sitting rather comfortably in first place!

As far as taste goes we all agreed it was superb. Which was comforting, because at our current rate of disagreement we weren't sure if we would ever see a pizza approach the "4" mark, let alone the ever coveted perfection score of "5".

Appearance was what you'd expect from a pizzeria. The crust, if anything, looked slightly under-cooked but in no such way did the taste or texture reflect that. The cheese and sauce balance was near perfection as the picture appropriately indicates.

Like many pizzeria's the location left something to be desired, but in this case it is merely because York New Salem is off the beaten path.

Service was very good.I placed the order pizza and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes, and it was.

If you like a sweet sauce, then you should seriously check this place out! Jim & Nena's hit the "sweet sauce" mark without masking hints of garlic among other spices. On a side note; the garlic bread was some of the best we've ever had, it's certainly worth trying!

WTC(heese)?!

Location - 2073 Springwood Rd York, PA 17403
Phone - 717-650-2648
Website - www.nittanypizza.com

Location Eaten - Carry Out
Price - $10.89 (Large Cheese Pizza)
TC1P Rating - 2.3625

Cheese, everywhere..... Seriously this pizza had more cheese than any pizza we've collectively eaten in our life-time! Did you ever think there could be a pizza with too much cheese? Well this particular pie by Nittany Pizza stepped up to the line of "too much cheese" then strapped a rocket to it and launched straight to the cheese making factories and depleted their stockpiles of cheese. See figure 1

To be fair, the pizza itself had potential. The sauce was very good, and the crust was near perfect in taste, as well as texture.

Appearance was as close to perfection as we have seen in some time. The cheese was slightly golden in spots, sauce was a luscious red, and the crust was golden-brown.

The service was very good, however the parking situation is not ideal. While there is a large parking lot, there are many businesses in close proximity to Nittany Pizza, as a result finding a parking spot in a desirable location can be challenging at best.

This pizza certainly has potential to be great, but the sheer amount of cheese is what killed it for us.

Romas Pizza - Dallastown Edition

Location - 2 E. Main St. Dallastown, PA 17313
Phone - 717-246-1399

Website - www.romasdallastown.com

Location Eaten - Carry Out
Price - $9.50 (Large Cheese Pizza)
TC1P Rating - 2.4563

Roma's of Dallastown received a fairly low score of 2.4563. This is our lowest score yet, BUT that isn't saying much since it is only pizza number two!

Driving home the aroma of pizza deceived our nostrils with an unmistakable scent of melting cheese over tomato sauce with hints of garlic and basil! To our surprise the first few bites revealed the pizza was clearly not as good as the aromas it produced minutes before on our ride home. Each one of us concluded that the crust left something to be desired, and quite honestly was the downfall of what could be an exceptionally awesome pie.

As for appearance, the pizza looked fantastic. The picture to the right simply does not do it justice. But as we all know, looks certainly do not outweigh taste (unless of course it happens to be in the shape of Chuck Norris round house kicking a grizzly bear in the face).

Chris and I had no complaints with the service. Fifteen minutes after we placed the order it was ready, and the cashier was courteous.

Location typically isn't a big issue, however at this restaurant parking was not what one would call ideal. If you plan to eat here ( or even carry out) your best option may be to park on main street in Dallastown and walk a few yards.

Below is our collective ratings! (Chelsea and Jordan did not accompany us on the carry-out mission, as a result their opinions do not count in Service or Location ratings).

Papa John’s Minus Papa

Location - South York Plaza 247 Pauline Drive
Phone - (717) 747-9595
Website - johnspizzashop.com

Location Eaten - Carry Out
Price - $11.12 (Large Cheese Pizza)
TC1P Rating - 3.7188

Overall the average rating we gave was 3.7188. Our opinions greatly differed as you can see below. We rarely disagree on this level, however this was a great lesson on taste-bud diversity!

As you can see in the image on the right this is very much what one would expect a pizza (in this area) to look like. A delicate balance of cheese to sauce ratio atop delicious golden-brown crust.

Taste of this pie is REALLY what counts, and most likely why you came here in the first place. The sauce was not sweet, but it wasn't overly garlicky (we make up words here). Joe and Chelsea both felt the sauce was missing something, and concluded the pizza itself was rather bland. Chris and Jordan on the other hand couldn't be more pleased with the pie!

The service from the staff at John's was nothing short of great. We were immediately waited on, and the pizza was ready on time just as they said!

Overall as you can see in the rating system below, go check it out for yourself, see if you agree!

Four Friends, Two Couples, Good Food

Sit back and watch (or read) as a couple of folks from York County Pennsylvania with VERY different opinions on what good food is go on an epic journey to find nothing short of the most epic, awesome, and absolutely BEST pizza in the area!

Our rating system will follow a few, strict, and simple rules.

Rules:
  1. The four of us must eat the pizza together, and at the same time.
  2. Cheese pizza will be our baseline.
  3. No spices or additives (Yes, that unfortunately means NO Sriracha )

Rating System:

  1. Taste (Perhaps the most important element in the pursuit of pizza perfection!)
    1. Weight - 75%
  2. Appearance (Grease ball with dough, or melted cheese resting perfectly over savory red sauce atop a golden crust)
    1. Weight - 15%
  3. Service (While an important aspect of any eatery, service won’t make a bad pizza good, and certainly won’t make a good pizza bad!)
    1. Weight - 5%
  4. Location (Is it a hole in the wall, or do rays of heavenly light shine down upon the restaurant all while angels sing).
    1. Weight - 5%
  5. Price (This won’t be a bang for buck rating system, price will simply be stated and referenced, this can be a factor for when/if a tie breaker occurs).
  6. Eating Method (Carry out, Delivery, or eating on premise. Just like the Price variable, Eating method will not affect the overall score of the pizza).

Format:

We’ll post pictures of the establishment, and of course the pizza itself. A simple write up describing the pizza, with of course our individual ratings, as well as the combined rating system.

We’ll have an ever growing list of all our rated pizza’s that will get updated every time we eat pizza! We’ll keep it simple, and to the point; we aren't writing a novel here!

Stay tuned!
